Vampire crabs are small, colorful crabs known for their striking red claws and dark bodies. They are perfect for aquariums with a brackish or slightly acidic environment and are fascinating to watch due to their unique behaviors.

  • Appearance: These crabs have dark bodies with vibrant red claws, making them resemble vampires. They grow up to 2 inches in size.
  • Behavior: Active and curious, vampire crabs are mostly peaceful but can show territorial behavior, especially when housed with others of the same species.
  • Compatible Tankmates: Peaceful fish like neon tetras, small rasboras, and shrimp can live with vampire crabs. Avoid aggressive or larger fish that may harm them.
  • Husbandry: They require a tank with both land and water areas (minimum 10 gallons). Water temperature should be between 75–80°F, with a slight brackish mix (specific gravity 1.002–1.005). Maintain humidity at 60–80%.
