The chili rasbora is a vibrant, peaceful nano fish that thrives in lushly planted aquariums. Their fiery red coloration and tiny size make them a standout addition to any small community tank.

  • Level of Difficulty: Intermediate to Advanced
  • Appearance: Bright red bodies with a black stripe running along their side. They grow to about 0.8–1 inch in length.
  • Schooling Fish: Yes, chili rasboras prefer being in schools of at least 8–10 to feel secure and exhibit natural behaviors.
  • Behavior: Extremely peaceful and shy, they coexist well with similarly sized, non-aggressive tankmates.
  • Compatible Tankmates: Other nano fish such as galaxy rasboras, pygmy corydoras, and peaceful shrimp like yellow shrimp are ideal. Avoid housing with larger or boisterous species.
  • Husbandry: Thrive in densely planted tanks of at least 5 gallons. Water should be soft and slightly acidic, with a temperature range of 72–82°F and a pH of 5.0–7.0.
  • Diet: Omnivorous; feeds on micro-pellets, flakes, and small live or frozen foods such as daphnia and brine shrimp.
